AFTER SCHOOL MATTERS
Students participating in Chicago’s After-School Matters program constructed globes that demonstrate ways to counter the effects of climate change on our everyday lives. The children were taught about global warming through their work with the Cool Globes project, and their ability to grasp the complex issue is reflected by the artwork. The students also viewed An Inconvenient Truth, and successfully incorporated messages from the film into their concept of climate change and consequently into their globes. The involvement of the After-School Matters program allowed these students to gain perspective on an issue that their generation will inevitably confront, encouraging them to find inventive solutions in the process.
