SchoolGlobes Curriculum

Matt Binns

The Cool Globes Curriculum has been designed to be teacher and student friendly.  Its intent is to increase awareness of human impacts on our planet, specifically those that contribute to global warming.  It is divided into lessons that a teacher can either follow sequentially or use as supplements within their designed curriculum.  All data collection, journaling, observations, sketches, etc. generated by students working on these lessons will be recorded into their personal “Global Expressions” book.  Overall assessment of learning and application of information will occur through classroom participation in the “Cool Contest.”

This curriculum has been put together to meet Illinois state learning standards and benchmarks.  It will provide practice activities to better prepare students for ISAT testing.  In addition, it will provide teachers with hands on lessons that will fit seamlessly into three of the four content areas specified by the Chicago Math and Science Initiative:  Dynamic Earth, Climate and Weather, and Investigating Energy Resources.

The “S-Cool Globes” lessons can add hands-on, relevant, interdisciplinary experiences for students and teachers that are useful not only in school, but also in a world that needs our attention and care.
