San Diego

The Cool Globes exhibit in San Diego was made possible with the generous support of Toyota and Sempra Energy Foundation supporting the exhibit's educational outreach program.

Balboa Park: October 17 to November 30, 2008
More than 40 globes lined the walking path adjacent to the San Diego Natural History Museum with select globes on display inside the Museum.

Seaport Village and Embarcadero Marina Park North hosted the globes from December 1, 2008 through March 15, 2009, in partnership with the Unified Port of San Diego.

The Cool Globes San Diego exhibit featured globes designed by local, national and international artists, with two new globes created by San Diego artists, including Wyland's "Hands Across the Ocean" globe and Michelle Bassler's globe depicting cool scientific careers.

Local support for the San Diego exhibit was provided by Sempra Energy Foundation. The Foundation supported several educational outreach programs with the objective of encouraging children to learn from the globes in creative and interactive ways. By funding guided tours of the globes for hundreds of children from underserved areas, including child-friendly educational materials, games and a scavenger hunt in the exhibit guidebook, the Foundation is helping extend the message of education as being vital to change.
